      Deception in Genesis. Michael James Williams, University of Pennsylvania. Abstract. The present study analyzes the phenomenon of deception in Genesis. While this phenomenon has been dealt with in a piecemeal fashion in the past by studies devoted to individual or small clusters of incidents, no comprehensive treatment has hitherto been performed. Judah (Hebrew: יְהוּדָה ‎, Standard Yəhuda Tiberian Yehuḏā) was, according to the Book of Genesis, the fourth son of Jacob and Leah, the founder of the Israelite Tribe of extension, he is indirectly eponymous of the Kingdom of Judah, the land of Judea and the word Jew.. At the core of the book of Genesis the themes of desire and deception consistently reappear throughout the events described therein. It is a seemingly never-ending cycle that entangles the lives of even the most righteous of individuals.

Unrequited desire usually leads to dire consequences. While deception in Genesis has been addressed in piecemeal fashion in previous studies, this is the first time that it has been dealt with comprehensively.
