Make paper planes that are different sizes and compare how well they fly. Do bigger planes fly further? Try making paper planes out of different types of paper, such as printer paper, construction paper, and newspaper. Use the same design for each. Does one type of paper seem to work best for making paper planes? Does one type work the worst? My picture book read out loud would be the book, "Planes Fly!" I thought that this book would work nicely as a read out loud book for groups since it is mostly poetry that coincides with flying and planes. I found that the illustrations are bright and colorful and really showcase the idea of how planes fly /5.

Airplanes fly when the movement of air across their wings creates an upward force on the wings (and thus the rest of the plane) that is greater than the force of gravity pulling the plane toward the earth. The physics behind this phenomenon was first described by Daniel Bernoulli, an 18th century Swiss mathematician and scientist who studied the movement of fluids.   This clearly written, carefully illustrated how-to book combines the two activities to produce an up-to-date innovation: artfully constructed origami airplanes that actually fly. The author first shows you how to construct the Jet Tail, an important basic feature that is needed for many of the more difficult models diagrammed later/5(15).

The higher airplanes climb, the thinner the air gets, and the more efficiently they can fly because of less resistance in the atmosphere, according to Ryan Jorgenson, an aviation data analyst. Do you know how planes work? The purpose of this educational resource is to teach your child how planes work in an effort to calm him/her down whenever he/she rides in one. What makes this book truly engaging is that is includes important pieces of information that have been rewritten in a way that's easy for kids to understand. Grab a copy today!

The answer, of course, lies in the wings and in the air they are moving through. The study of this flow of air is part of the science of aerodynamics. This book is about aerodynamics in the broadest sense.

In addition What makes airplanes fly?. book airplanes, it discusses the aerodynamics of cars and birds and the motion of other diverse objects through air and water/5(2).

The fundamental notions of mechanics and fluid dynamics -- that is, the basic physics underlying aerodynamics -- are clearly explained.1/5(1). Developed for humanities students at Yale and intended for the general reader interested in flight, this book is about aerodynamics in the broadest sense.

To put the science into its social context, the author describes (with many illustrations) the history of human attempts to fly and discusses the outlook for future developments, as well as. How easily an airplane moves through the air, or its aerodynamics, is the first consideration in making an airplane fly for a long distance.

Drag & Gravity Planes that push a lot of air, like your hand did when it was facing the side, are said to have a lot of "drag," or resistance, to moving through the air.

The first force, lift, pushes up on things that fly — airplanes, birds, helicopters and rockets. The shape of the wings on an airplane and the whirling blades of a helicopter create lift as they move through the air.

The second force is weight — the force of two masses being attracted to each other. Weight is the force that pulls us towards. How Do Aeroplanes fly. For those who dream to fly, to sow the seeds for those who want to make flying real.

How Airplanes Fly. Airplanes fly because they are able to generate a force called Lift which normally moves the airplane upward. Lift is generated by the forward motion of the airplane through the air. This motion is produced by the Thrust of the engine(s).

The figure below is a simple diagram of the four forces acting on an airplane. Airplanes need four forces to fly. Lift is one of them. Image Credit: NASA. How do airplanes stay in the air. Four forces keep an airplane in the sky. They are lift, weight, thrust and drag.

Lift pushes the airplane up. The way air moves around the wings gives the airplane. How Do Airplanes Fly. Airplanes need four forces to fly.

These include force, thrust, lift, and drag. Force. A force is a push or a pull that causes an object to change speed, direction, or shape.
